Is ArtCraft Free? Yes — Here's Exactly What That Covers

Yes, ArtCraft is free — but "ArtCraft" names two products, and "free" works slightly differently for each. The seven craft apps (PhotoCraft, FilmCraft, VectorCraft, LightCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft, DesignCraft) are entirely free, open-source software under Apache-2.0, with no account and no paid tier. The AI studio is free to download and use too, but it asks you to sign in with a free account. Everything is free for personal and commercial use.

The Craft Apps: Free as in Open Source

Every craft app repository carries the Apache-2.0 license (verified in each repository, October 2026), and the main ArtCraft repository is dual-licensed MIT or Apache-2.0. These are permissive licenses, which means in plain terms:

  • Personal use: free, forever, all features.
  • Commercial use: allowed — use the apps for paid client work without paying the project.
  • Modification & redistribution: allowed with attribution under the license terms.
  • No tiers: there is no pro version, no watermark, no feature lock hiding behind an upgrade button.

These apps are also clean-room reimplementations — original Rust codebases, not modified copies of anyone else's software — which is exactly what makes them legal to give away.

The AI Studio: Free, With an Account

The ArtCraft AI studio — the interactive AI image and video generation app — is free to download and use, but its quick start is "install & sign in": you create a free account. That account requirement is the only asterisk on "free" in the whole suite, and it applies to the AI studio only. If your goal is a free Photoshop-style editor, none of this touches you: PhotoCraft needs no account at any point.

Free Compared to What It Replaces

The honest context for "is it free": the tools these apps replace are subscription products — Adobe's Creative Cloud and Microsoft 365. The ArtCraft column of that comparison is a zero, permanently, by license. We don't hardcode competitors' prices (they change by region and promotion), but the full app-by-app comparison — including which ArtCraft apps are ready for real work and which are still in development — is on the ArtCraft vs Adobe & Office page.

Where to Get It (Free, Official Sources Only)

Since it costs nothing, download only from the developers: the storytold GitHub organization and getartcraft.com. There is never a reason to use a "free download" mirror — the official source is already free. Windows packages are detailed on our download for PC page; the full line-up with status badges is on the homepage.

FAQ

Is ArtCraft free for commercial use?

Yes. Apache-2.0 (craft apps) and MIT/Apache-2.0 (main repository) both permit commercial use, modification and redistribution with attribution.

Is ArtCraft free on Windows, Mac and Linux?

Yes — every craft app publishes free installers for all three desktop platforms, plus browser builds for six of the seven.

Does the free version have limits?

The craft apps have no free/paid split at all — the license permits full use. The AI studio's only requirement is a free account.

Is ArtCraft open source?

Yes. The apps are clean-room implementations under permissive open-source licenses; the source code is public on GitHub.

Will ArtCraft stay free?

The current licenses guarantee it: Apache-2.0 and MIT permanently permit free use of the code as released. Any future changes could only apply to future versions, not to what is already published under those licenses.
